Or: I need another Web site to maintain like I need another hole in my head.

Having tried to put more holes in my head than I was initially allotted when born, that statement carries a bit more weight than when other people say it.

Why am I on Deviant Art? As the years roll on I find myself becoming more and more passionate about photography. This whole mess started years ago with me chewing through countless shitty disposable cameras in an attempt to document my all too often crazy life in the gothic, industrial, powernoise and EBM scenes. Eventually I upgraded to a utilitarian, but not terribly fancy, Kodak EZ Share digital point-and-shoot. Then by chance I picked up a Canon EOS Rebel, and my hope is that my next evolution as a photographer, gear wise, isn't too far around the next corner.

As my gear has evolved I've grown quite a bit as well as a photographer. Part of that is practice. I go to a lot of clubs and concerts. But more so I've grown through intent. I've been incredibly lucky over the years in that I've met some amazing people in the dark music scene. And I'm particularly blessed in that I know a lot of the bands and artists that I spin as a DJ. What I do as a photographer is a sort of homage for me, a way of capturing the energy, the excitement, the camaraderie and the culture of the scene that I've been involved in for well over a decade now.

I created this profile as my first step toward establishing a professional portfolio as a photographer. I take scads of pictures of other subjects -- nature always amazes me, I get lots of shots of my friends and I engaged in grand adventures out and about, I love taking shots of food and my very silly little mutt, and, really, just about everything else that catches my eye -- but these galleries are dedicated to the darker side of the world where I spend most of my time. It's for the rivet and the velvet, the creepy and the spooky, the racy and the macabre, the fetish and the freakish, the artistic.

I won't be using this site to blog much. I have an LJ for that and, frankly, that's a much more personal experience. I'll keep up with everyone's artistic endeavors here but I don't plan on using it as a networking hub, because that's what my Facebook is for. I probably won't talk about music much either on this site, save in relation to some of my photography, as the two often go hand in hand; MySpace and Vampire Freaks already cover the music angle of what I do nicely. And for anyone who's interested in the myriad pictures that I take at events that, while fun and even maybe "good" aren't exactly portfolio caliber material, well, I even maintain an LJ community specifically for that purpose.
